Delamere Toy Library was set up by volunteers, one of whom is our current President (view the Presidents Message here) Today, nearly 30 years later, the volunteers continue to be the backbone of our organisation. Currently around 20 volunteers, varying in age from 18 to 90 and from an array of backgrounds, work alongside our four part time employees doing jobs such as checking and cleaning returned toys, making refreshments, helping to catalogue new toys, assisting children to play and choose toys, fundraising as a committee member etc. Their reasons for being at Delamere Toy Library are various; - work experience, retirement, enhancing skills or gaining confidence before returning to paid work or just simply making new friends. View volunteers comments here Some of our volunteers have been members of the Toy Library since they were babies. They now attend the Toy Library as part of their ‘Life Skills’ college courses gaining valuable work and life experience performing their Toy Library duties. View volunteers comments here Two young people came under the umbrella of Millennium Volunteers in 2007-2008 and attended a party in Manchester where they were presented with certificates to celebrate their achievement. All of our volunteers are police checked and go through a four week induction period where they can decide if the Toy Library is for them. Although all volunteers start off in the same way experiencing a variety of jobs, some have shown excellent skills in a particular direction and go on to specialise in that area, eg fundraising or creative play. Most of our volunteers work at The Toy Library between 9.45am and 2.30pm on Wednesdays and/or Fridays during term time. A couple help out at the Link Group and others at The Rainbow Band. If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer at Delamere Toy Library please contact us on 746 8185. Or send an email via the contact page.
