Welcoming you to this website gives me the chance to tell something of the pride I feel for Delamere Toy Library. It was 28 years ago that I and a group of mothers set out on a journey from a store cupboard in Delamere School. Often it became rocky and adventurous, but very fulfilling. In the first year £351 was spent on toys to start to support families and children with special needs. In partnership with Trafford Borough Council the Library now enjoys working in, and from, its own Toy House which has equipment and toys worth many thousands of pounds. It receives over 2000 visitors per year and provides an outreach service across the borough. The success of this venture, which arose in my mind as a dream following the birth of Lorraine, my Down’s Syndrome daughter, has been very dependent on the generous financial sponsorship of many individuals and organisations. By far the most vital asset has been the army of Volunteer Workers, the Staff, the Committee and Officers past and present that have contributed so much over the years. Unstinting and dedicated hard work carried out with the essential ingredient of good humour have made the Library what it has become - a happy, welcoming place for individuals and families who look to us for help and encouragement. I know that you would be welcome always if you were to visit the Toy House to see what we do, and, perhaps how you could help us! Eve Hammett Back to Volunteers page
